"I've just launched an online critical resource on product placement in the movies called Brand Hype (www.brandhype.org). It's been a couple of years in the making, so please take a look around and let me know what you think, and by all means spread the word. The main feature is a publicly accessible product placement database called Movie Mapper that can be searched by brandname, movie title, actor, studio, etc. This database has been designed so that *anyone* can sign up and help us log movies; in fact, we're going to be depending on community involvement to keep it growing. So far we've logged about one hundred movies. The site also includes an extensive bibliography, discussion forum, movie stills, and excerpts from recent books by Janet Wasko and Kembrew McLeod. (Visitors can also view Behind the Screens: Hollywood goes Hypercommercial, the video I produced in 2000 for the Media Education Foundation. Behind the Screens includes lots of examples of product placement, as well as interviews with Susan Douglas, Mark Crispin Miller, Janet Wasko, and Robert W. McChesney.) Your feedback and criticism would be most welcome as we continue to develop this resource over the coming months."
"The first case (as far as I'm aware) enforcing a Creative Commons licence has come out in the Netherlands. The case involves famous podcaster Adam Curry, who had a number of pictures in Flickr under an Attribution-NonCommercial-Share Alike licence. Some of the pictures were taken by Weekend, a Dutch tabloid, and placed in the cover. Curry sued over infringement of the non-commercial and attribution elements of the licence, and apparently has obtained
-hurry up guys!!!-
This 16mm film stirred a lot of controversy. State hospital employees held a press conference threatening a lawsuit to ban the film, a major drug company wanted to buy HURRY TOMORROW and re-edit the material to show their product in good light, in Los Angeles there was a bomb threat at the cinema, secret memos on the film were circulated to California psychiatric hospital administrators, and at least one film review was squelched. Yet, after watching HURRY TOMORROW then California Governor Jerry Brown refused to take action to ban it; instead he initiated a statewide investigation into patient deaths in state hospitals. The film was screened for legislators around the country, for the district attorney and coroner in Los Angeles, and it is credited with triggering the major news story of 1976 in California.
Take a look at the trailer, or watch the entire documentary.

"An assessment of how faith communities contribute to building social capital.
The Government has identified faith communities as important sources of ‘social capital’ in community development and regeneration. But religion is also associated with conflict and division. How far is this faith in ‘faith’ justified? And how far should faith communities comply?
Faith as social capital assesses the debate and the evidence. It:
* summarises the controversies surrounding the idea of 'social capital' and the place of 'faith' in community policy; * assesses the contribution of faith communities to social capital, which extends beyond bonding to building bridges and linking with others in civil society; and * identifies policy and practice implications for secular and faith organisations and networks.
The research in the report encompasses five major faith traditions (Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh) across four English regions. It explores the nature of social capital stemming from faith buildings, associations, engagement with governance and participation in the wider public domain."más... "Faith as social capital"
* Welcome to the future, Douglas Rushkoff dixit!!!
"According to Pakistani intelligence sources, the use of free and anonymous e-mail services such as Yahoo! or Hotmail by al Qaeda operatives is widespread."
"al Qaeda's operatives speak in code words which makes it impossible for any outsider to understand their true content if they have not penetrated the organization already."
comentario de Robin,
"So suspected al Qaeda operatives are sending each other email using free web based email, just like the webmail used by the vast majority of email users around the world, AND they use emoticons and text speak! Earth shattering analysis from ABC News and the great minds at the Homeland Security Policy Institute..."
